070/22 News Release - Cruelty to Animals Suspect Wanted
November 22, 2022

CrimeStoppers and the Honolulu Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect wanted for Cruelty to Animals in the First Degree.

On Thursday, November 17, 2022, at approximately 4:30 p.m., an unknown person shot a dog with a firearm in the Waialua area. The dog was taken to a veterinary hospital where it underwent surgery and is currently recovering.

069/22 News Release - Cruelty to Animals Suspect Wanted
November 14, 2022

CrimeStoppers and the Honolulu Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect wanted for Cruelty to Animals in the First Degree.

On Wednesday, November 9, 2022, a cat was shot once with a BB/pellet gun in the Kailua area. The cat was taken to a local veterinarian where it succumbed to its injuries.

068/22 News Release - Sex Assault Suspect Wanted
November 02, 2022

CrimeStoppers and the Honolulu Police Department would like to thank the
public for their assistance in identifying a male who was wanted for Kidnapping and Sexual Assault in the Third Degree.

On Thursday, November 3, 2022, at approximately 4:00 p.m., HPD officers
located a 24 year old male in the Pearlridge area and placed him under arrest for Kidnapping, Sex Assault in the Third Degree, Robbery in the Second Degree and Resisting Arrest. Charges are pending.

Suspect: Unknown male
Race: Polynesian
Age: 20’s to 30’s
Height: 5’6” to 5’8”
Weight: 180 lbs to 200 lbs.
Hair: Short, dark hair

067/22 News Release - Phone Scam
October 31, 2022

CrimeStoppers and the Honolulu Police Department want to warn the public
about a phone scam that is occurring.

There have been cases where the complainants have received a phone call from a male who stated that they were with the Honolulu Police Department and that
the complainant was wanted for a warrant. They were then instructed to pay a
monetary fine via gift cards. The complainant believed that the call was legitimate because the caller ID showed that the phone call was originating from the Honolulu Police Department. The complainant then purchased several gift cards and made the payments over the phone. The complainant later realized that they had been scammed.

Law enforcement agencies including the Honolulu Police Department will never contact the public and request for payment to be made.

PHONE SPOOFING
There is an app that allows phone spoofing. It conceals the number of the phone being used and uses another phone number to appear in your caller ID.

It can appear to be a Federal Government Agency or your local police department. This can also be used to imitate utility companies, Hawaiian Electric Company or Board of Water Supply, in order to collect false debts.

Do not discuss vital information with anyone who calls. Hang up, check your
telephone book for the proper number of the agency identified in the call.
Please contact police if you receive these types of calls.

066/22 News Release - Fake Jewelry Scam
October 31, 2022

CrimeStoppers and the Honolulu Police Department would like to inform the
public about a fake jewelry scam that is still occurring.

There have been reports of individuals approaching people over various parts of
the Waipahu area and asking them if they would like to purchase jewelry that
appear to be authentic. The individuals are stating that they are in desperate
need of cash and are willing to sacrifice the jewelry for a discounted price.
Please do not purchase any jewelry from strangers on the streets. Purchases
should only be made through reputable dealers or stores.

065/22 News Release - Failure to Render Aid Witnesses Wanted
October 19, 2022

CrimeStoppers and the Honolulu Police Department are asking for the public’s assistance in locating witnesses to a motor vehicle collision which occurred in the Nuuanu area.

On Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at approximately 7:12 a.m., a 14 year old male pedestrian was crossing the street on Nuuanu Avenue and Wyllie Street when he was struck by a red vehicle. The driver of the vehicle then fled the scene without rendering aid to the pedestrian. The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital in serious condition. The driver of the red vehicle is being described as an unknown female. Anyone who witnesses this incident is asked to contact the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division at 808-723-3413.

064/22 News Release Hawaiian Electric Company Scam
October 14, 2022

CrimeStoppers and the Honolulu Police Department would like to inform the
public about a Hawaiian Electric Company scam that is occurring.

There have been reports of residents receiving a call from someone purporting to be a Hawaiian Electric Company employee. The person is stating that the customer is delinquent on their electric bill and if immediate payment is not made, their electricity will be shut off. In two cases the customers were instructed to make payment via bitcoin.

Hawaiian Electric will never call a customer to ask for payment over the phone or threaten to immediately shut off service. If you receive a threatening call from a utility company, ‘Just hang up!’ and dial the customer service number listed on your actual bill or on the company website. Do not call the number on your caller ID because it will lead you right back to the scammer.

Local utilities offer the following tips to avoid phone and email scams:

• If someone calls from a utility demanding immediate payment over the
phone, via money transfer, prepaid debit cards, or by Bitcoin, it’s a scam.

• If the caller asks to meet the customer in person to pick up a payment, it’s
a scam.

• If you receive an email from your utility urging you to click on an
embedded link or attachment to resolve a utility issue or pay a bill, think
before you click. It’s likely a scam.

• If a utility worker shows up at your home or place of business, ensure that
person is wearing official attire with a logo, driving a properly labeled
vehicle and carrying company identification. When in doubt, call the
utility’s customer service center.

063/22 News Release Robbery Suspects Wanted
October 08, 2022

CrimeStoppers and the Honolulu Police Department are asking for the public’s assistance in locating two males who are wanted for Robbery in the First Degree.

On Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at approximately 6:25 p.m., two male suspect’s arrived at the victim’s home in the Hawaii Kai area. Suspect #2 brandished a firearm and assaulted victim #1 as she was in her yard. Suspect #1 entered the residence brandished a firearm and assaulted victim #2 then zip tied her hands together but she was later able to escape and call for help. Both suspects then fled in vehicles.

062/22 News Release Cell Phone Sim Card Swap Scam
September 27, 2022

CrimeStoppers and the Honolulu Police Department wants to warn the public
about a cell phone sim card swap scam that is occurring. There have been cases where the complainant’s received a text message from their cellular phone carrier stating that a sim card exchange had been requested.

When the complainant’s clicked on the link, it granted the unknown suspect to
gain control over the complainant’s phone number and gain access to their
financial accounts. In one particular incident, the suspect called police with the
complainant’s phone number and stated that he was going to shoot his wife.
Officer’s then responded to the complainant’s home under the guise that a
shooting was about to occur. It was later discovered that the complainant was a
victim of swatting, where a prank call is made to the police which results in a
heavy police response to an address.

If you receive a text message from your cellular phone carrier stating that a sim
card exchange was requested, do not click on the link or authorize the request.
Immediately contact your phone carrier and inform them that you did not make
that request.

058/22 News Release - Arson Suspect Wanted
September 13, 2022

CrimeStoppers and the Honolulu Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a male who is wanted for Arson in the First Degree.

On Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at approximately 2:19 a.m., an unknown suspect arrived at the complainant’s residence in the Manoa area in an SUV. The suspect poured an accelerant onto the complainant’s vehicle then set it on fire and fled the scene.
